It is a small world. While selling tickets for Post 24's annual fundraiser, Dave Ahearn and I entered into a discussion with a very nice lady. When I told her where I lived, she said that her brother had lived in the same town as I. Then she asked if we remembered the truck that rolled off the ferry a few years ago. We told her yes. Then she said the driver who died in that bizarre accident was her brother, Mike Zuber. (Mike's  tractor-trailer rolled off the stern of the passenger ferry SUSAN ANN while crossing from New London, CT to Orient Point, L.I.  on November 19, 2002). And we stunned her when we told her that we had spent a few days with Mike at a hunting lodge in Vermont about 6 years or so ago!

I told her that I had at least one picture of her brother from that hunting trip.  The picture below is one that I had scanned into my computer on November 27, 2002 which shows Mike on the left, sitting with Dave. I will search thru my photo albums and packs of pictures to see if I can find any more pictures for her.

My friend Dave Ahearn caught a 30 1/2" rainbow trout in Paw Paw, West Virginia in May 2005 and it now adorns my wall! By the way, it had weighed in at 14.5 lbs. Dave had it stuffed and I am sure the taxidermist got "stuffed" as well after eating the meat of the fish!

I am proud to be a member of both these very fine organizations.

House Repair Project  - Before and After Pictures:

A note: in order to fix the poor workmanship and to do the job right, it was decided

to re-side the house in conjunction with doing the repairs. Rainhandlers will be

used in lieu of gutters (a proven technology) ... I have them on my house.

To learn more about Rainhandlers, please visit: www.rainhandler.com

BACK TO THE HOUSE PROJECT!!!!

And I would like to note that the son attempted years ago to paint the siding on the right side of the house - what a mess!!!

Pictures of the house on August 11, 2009 - "Day 2" - Repairs

As previously mentioned, the first of the storm waves arrived 08-12-09 at approx. 21:00

and it ain't over yet. Can't say here what transpired other than someone's drawers got in a bunch.

Pictures of the house on August 12, 2009 - "Day 3" and the 1st ugly wave....

No drama occurred on "Day 4" - we are nearing completion - Rainhandlers due to arrive soon...

Pictures of the house on August 13, 2009 - A replacement sign in place.....

"Day 5" Sign removed but it found its way back. Someone's drawers are still in a twist.

Some comments: There was nothing wrong with the aluminum siding

I am going to the town hall on Monday to see if a permit was pulled.

I could have done the job cheaper

Reminds me of the 4 season's song: Big Boys (ooops) Girls, Don't cry

Pictures of the house on August 14, 2009 - complete except the doorbells.

And the sign disappeared again, but it was found (9/5/09) in a shambles. It was straightened out   and put back onto the front lawn .... for how long??? Who knows!!!! WAAAAAAAAH

For Rich (8/11/09):

I found a squatty dehumidifier to place atop a storage cabinet in the basement.

I cut a 1x3 to size, drilled 1/2 hole (and reamed larger to accommodate 5/8" drain hose)

Brushed on white stain to protect, and installed (held in place simply by the close of the window).

Weather was very hot and humid and I got bit up by the mosquitoes along the way.

But I am glad I got this project done for this second side of the cellar.

The casters were easily removed by depressing plastic tab and sliding out of the track.

I have a few inches of clearance with the above floor joists - just the perfect size!

My other dehumidifier would not shut off when the container was full.... Uggggh - what a mess!

On my to-do list was to get a dehumidifier that was more compact and could drain easily outside.

I went to Lowes on another mission and saw this one on an end-cap quite by accident!

Just PURRRRRRR-fect.

For Chuck - 2 types of  "nuggets"

In the beginning of October 2009, I encountered another cry-baby.

I set up my operation at a friend's house after I gave up the machine shop in the fall of 2007.

I had no problems casting for 2 years, but things got crunchy with one of his neighbors.

Although I had things cleared with the town, it was easier to move my casting operation back to my previous shop location.

Not a big deal for me to cast elsewhere!

So, I am now a mobile casting operation!

Lead storage:

End of the day.... casting was done outside of the "shop" - burner is off in this picture.

10-13-2009 First Day Back at my previous shop location after 2 years.

In the process of getting things ironed out.

Pictures taken with my cell phone.

First 2 Ingots Poured

First 4 ingots poured

More ingots on the first day!

Day 2 - Oct 14, 2009

I had a roll-around made to exact height of the Remington cart . I have a roll of aluminum sheet and

had that put atop the roll-around. I added the handles due to it being heavy and bulky.

I have added a piece of wood that rests underneath the saw horses (not pictured, yet!) to serve as a shelf

As I cast ingots, and flip my molds, I eventually move the ingots to the make-shift shelf that spans the sawhorses.

With the help of Marcel of M.G. Enterprises, we made 2 trips to the dump to clean off the loading dock.

Unfortunately, I don't have before pictures. However, about 1/2 the dock was covered with "stuff".

I also have to see about removing grafitti that is on the overhead door, I edited it out on my pics.

I now have my set-up away from the overhead door. Moved it 90 degrees so that the door is to my right.

Stay tuned for more pictures!
