It is a small world. While selling tickets for Post 24's annual fundraiser, Dave Ahearn and I entered into a discussion with a very nice lady. When I told her where I lived, she said that her brother had lived in the same town as I. Then she asked if we remembered the truck that rolled off the ferry a few years ago. We told her yes. Then she said the driver who died in that bizarre accident was her brother, Mike Zuber. (Mike's tractor-trailer rolled off the stern of the passenger ferry SUSAN ANN while crossing from New London, CT to Orient Point, L.I. on November 19, 2002). And we stunned her when we told her that we had spent a few days with Mike at a hunting lodge in Vermont about 6 years or so ago! I told her that I had at least one picture of her brother from that hunting trip. The picture below is one that I had scanned into my computer on November 27, 2002 which shows Mike on the left, sitting with Dave. I will search thru my photo albums and packs of pictures to see if I can find any more pictures for her. R. I. P. Mike Zuber A loving father to 3 children who often rode with him during school vacations and in the summer; a proud veteran who served 3 tours in Vietnam with the 182nd Airborne.
My friend Dave Ahearn caught a 30 1/2" rainbow trout in Paw Paw, West Virginia in May 2005 and it now adorns my wall! By the way, it had weighed in at 14.5 lbs. Dave had it stuffed and I am sure the taxidermist got "stuffed" as well after eating the meat of the fish!
I have been the proud owner of a 1942 Ford GPW since 1996 I think of it as a rolling museum. I enjoy giving people of all ages rides and doing short parade runs. Pictured below are some photos taken on Memorial Day 2004 prior to the Milford, CT's parade. Lt. Ed Obert (Parade Marshall) and Dave Ahearn And some earlier pictures For a great website regarding a great military vehicles collectors club, please visit COMVEC (there is a link to it on my Links page). You do not have to be an owner of a military vehicle to join. COMVEC is affiliated with the international organization MVPA (Military Vehicle Preservation Association). I am proud to be a member of both these very fine organizations.
