Roller skates were invented in
1760. And the concept hasn’t changed much since then. Put the
wheels inline, and you’ve got Rollerblades. Stick them to a
board, and you’ve got skateboarding. That’s pretty much it. But
the man in this Video of the Day has other ideas.
Meet French designer Jean-Yves
Blondeau. He’s invented the Buggy Rollin’ suit. It’s a suit that
attaches wheels to every part of the body. All the major joints,
chest and back become roller skates. This allows one to travel
in almost any position.
This strange contraption
has earned Blondeau the name Rollerman.
But Blondeau isn’t
satisfied cruising sidewalks. He takes his suit to the extreme.
He’s recorded a top speed of nearly 70 mph. He puts that speed
to use in this video. You’ll see him rocket down a twisting road
in the SwissAlps.
The son
asked his father, 'Dad, will you take part in a marathon with me?'. The father,
despite having a heart condition, said 'Yes'. They went on to complete the marathon together.
Father and son went on to join other marathons,
the father always saying 'Yes' to his son's request of going through the race
together. One day the son made a suggestion - 'Dad, let's do
the Ironman together.' Again, his father said, 'Yes'. For those who don't know, Ironman is the toughest
triathlon of all. The race encompasses three endurance events of a 2.4 mile
(3.86 kilometer) ocean swim, followed by a 112 mile (180.2 kilometer) bike ride,
and ending with a 26.2 mile (42.195 kilometer) marathon along the coast of the
Big Island. The father and son went on to complete the race together. Brace yourself and watch the video...
A quote from Mathew Wright:If
you've never seen "Cog," it's a 2-minute commercial following the progress of a
real Rube Goldberg contraption. It was created in April of 2003. The short video
took more than 600 takes before every little step of the machine worked
perfectly. True Rube Goldberg followers would never edit a video to fake a
perfectly functioning machine.
"The Comedy Barn in Tennessee is home
to a long-running variety show. One of the show’s staples is a
standup comedian. For one bit, he pulls audience members
onstage. But on this day, he got more than he bargained for.
One man breaks up the show. No, he’s
not causing trouble. He’s just laughing. But isn’t comedy
supposed to make you laugh?
Wait until you hear this guy. Even
the professional can’t keep a straight face. Enjoy."
"Jerry’s
Breakdown
is an ungodly
complicated bluegrass guitar song. It was written by
bluegrass legend Jerry Reed. He wrote it to be played by
him and his idol, Chet Atkins. They preformed it
together. They traded off sections – dueling-guitar
style.
Antoine
Dufour and Tommy Gauthier are two young musicians. They
have a go at the impressive Jerry’s Breakdown. But they
throw in their own twist. They only use one guitar. It
looks like they had a blast playing it.And you’ll have a blast
watching it! Enjoy.
" Quote from Kim
Komando
Prepare yourself for this one - maybe with a Stoli martini or two.
Back in the days of the Soviet Union, the Soviet Red Army had an official choir
composed of male soldiers and musicians. It still exists. The Red Army Choir
performs throughout Russia to this day.
Now consider the Finnish rock band called The Leningrad Cowboys. A little while
ago, they held a concert in Russia, in which - to the screaming applause of
Russkie teen-agers - they got the Red Army Choir to join them on stage for a
performance of "Sweet Home Alabama." In English. You couldn't make this up.
We're talking seriously off the wall here. Better have that Stoli ready when
you watch it:
The
video below is of one of the homeless in Santa Barbara with his pets. They work
State Street every week for donations. The animals are pretty well fed and are
mellow. They are a family. The man who owns them rigged a harness up for his cat
so she wouldn't have to walk so much (like the dog and himself). At some
juncture the rat came along, and so no one wanted to eat anyone else, the rat
started riding with the cat and often, on the cat. The dog will stand all day
and let you talk to him and admire him for a few chin scratches. The mayor of
Santa Barbara filmed this clip and sent it out as a Christmas card.
